Textile Roundup: Indian Awards for Huntsman, Outdoor Brands Adopt Polygiene Odor Tech, Bruckner Tapped to Modernize Algerian Maker

Hunstman Textile Effects has earned itself two awards for its dyestuffs, Orvis and Simms take on Polygiene for odor fighting, and an Algerian textile firm looks to upgrade its offering.

Hunstman honored for its dyes

Huntsman Textile Effects was recently given two awards from the 2016 Dyestuff Manufacturers Association of India.

Huntsman was recognized for its “Excellent Performance in Exports of Dyestuffs by a Large Scale Unit” based on criteria such as innovation, creativity, development and quality, and “Excellent Performance in Pollution Control by a Large Scale Unit” for its contribution in supporting environment, health and safety and sustainability for the textile industry.

The awards were presented at the 67th Annual General Meeting of DMAI in Mumbai earlier this month.

Nipun Soni, site manager for Singapore-based Huntsman TE’s Baroda plant in India, said, “This acknowledgement reaffirms Huntsman Textile Effects’ focus on innovation and continuous improvement in safety and hazard controls to meet industry demands. We continue to draw on the expertise of our people and established processes in product stewardship.”


Last month, Huntsman unveiled an underground water tank it constructed to help address the shortage of water in Luna village in India near the Baroda facility.

The Luna village received water from Narmada water project but due to insufficient storage capacity, the water was drained away in a nearby pond, leading management at Baroda to propose the construction of the water storage facility as a long-term solution for the village.

The project was operated on a public-private partnership model and took close to two years to complete. Huntsman invested and managed the construction of the tank, working with the local water board in laying pipelines, drilling wells and other underground work required for a complete water solution.

Outdoor brands adopt Polygiene odor tech

Polygiene, a Swedish supplier of odor control and freshness technologies, said outdoor and fly fishing brands Orvis and Simms have adopted its ingredient odor technology.

Polygiene’s fabric treatment will be incorporated as an integral part of Orvis’ spring 2018 travel collection, as well as with several new technical angling pieces from Simms.

“We have seen consistent growth with our current brand partners increasing the role of Polygiene in their product lines, as well as new brands adopting our technology,” said Colleen Nipkow, Polygiene’s global marketing director. “With lifestyles developing around the sports we serve, including travel as a central component of that, consumers require odorless solutions allowing the focus to be on the activity not the product.”

Orvis’ travel collection will feature Polygiene Permanent Odor Control in eight styles that use easy-to-care, quick-drying fabrics that are wrinkle free.

Simms will introduce Polygiene technology for several spring 2018 technical angling pieces, including the Solarflex Armor Shirt and Women’s Guide Skort. The Solarflex Armor Shirt incorporates a mesh inner side and arm panels for ventilation, a patent pending full coverage gaiter design in addition to a quick drying, wicking and UPF50 rated fabric. It becomes the first technical angling shirt on the market to incorporate Polygiene’s Permanent Odor Control fabric treatment.

The Women’s Guide Skort is built-to-fish featuring an inner short with Polygiene fabric treatment, a water resistant, quick-drying, wicking and UPF50 fabric.

Polygiene is a Bluesign approved, silver-salt treatment for textiles derived from recycled content. Polygiene reduces the need for frequent laundering, saving time, water and energy over the life cycle of apparel.

Bruckner helps Algerian maker modernize

The Algerian EPE-EATIT SpA group recently bought 52 Dornier looms from German textile machinery manufacturer Bruckner to produce woven fabric made of polyamide and cotton for the domestic market.

EPE-EATIT has seven sites and covers a large range of textiles from garments to home textiles, professional clothes and technical textiles.

The purchase is part of the Algerian company’s move to modernize its coating and finishing division. EPE-EATIT has also ordered a coating and laminating line from Bruckner.

The heart of the line is a six-compartment stenter designed for a high production speed that flexibility in fabric choice needed to be competitive and innovative.
